Pitchfork streams "Punchy Stabby" from upcoming Helms Alee & Young Windows split

Though three years passed since Helms Alee’s second album and this year's excellent Sleepwalking Sailors, the Washington state trio wasn’t exactly taking it easy in the interim. Last year alone, they released three splits, highlighted by their side of a 7” with Philly’s Ladder Devils, and on June 3 they’ll issue a six-song 12” with tourmates Young Widows. “Punchy Stabby” is an appropriately titled blast from Helms Alee, rushing and roaring through three verses in about 100 seconds. Despite the speed, though, the trio’s typical harmony-heavy approach makes what’s hear stick, making this a synthesis of hooky and heavy in much the same way as the best cuts from Sleepwalking Sailors. Even if you can’t quite tease out what Ben Verellen’s screaming, you’ll want to shout the melody, however wordless and mangled, back at him.

Helms Alee debut the first new track, "Punchy Stabby" off  their 12" split with Young Widows which comes out officially on June 3rd on Sargent House. In May both bands will be touring together and will have the release early for sale at the shows.
